Well - hell week has finally arrived and we seem to be off to a great start.
Yesterday i had the surgery to implant the portocath in my chest which went well, so the surgeon says. Personally it feels like i was tripped from behind while trying to save an icing and hit the boards with my shoulder (that did actually happen once upon a time, maybe twice hence the analogy) - thank god i have vicodin this time. One more addition to the chest to join the wound and ostomy - the goal is to hopefully start shedding devices soon and stop adding them - if you sleep on your stomach i envy you.
The good news is we were treated to a surprise visit from Uncle Jerry who was on his way back from Seattle via Chicago and heading onto Boston via Dallas (hopefully there are not any more delays) ..............selfishly the other great part was Amy made my favorite pasta sauce (which apparently we now only get when Jerry visits) and since she had a few spare seconds whipped up an amazing chocolate cake.
The best news for the boys was they got to see uncle Jerry who came bearing gifts............the much sought after MLL Boston Cannons apparel - quite a hit for the young skips who also got their special Uncle J nick names enshrined.
So as you know today was the the beginning of my chemotherapy and our introduction to the Knight Cancer Institute - it was a really nice facility. We started at 10:00 a.m. with an organizational strategy session on the red sox - consensus being they should get rid of theo, should have kept tito...and need to clean out the useless pitching....needless to say my oncologist is from RI and went to BU med.
It turns out this chemo thing makes for quite a long day - the visit which began at 10:00 was finished at 4:00 p. and we were than sent on our merry way. Protocol is i remain connected to a portable pump that administers the rest of the treatment over the next 46 hours and return on Friday to have the pump etc.. removed and prepare for the weekend. Sounds like those nasty chemo symptoms occur after the administration not during it so i remain hopeful the weekend is non-eventful.
And..........just to make it a little more exciting Amy and I move in to the basement tonight so we can turn over the master bedroom and master bath in the morning to our contractor. Soooo.....in 5 1/2 weeks assuming all goes according to plan - we should have a new master suite as designed by Nurse Amy - very exciting................
all for now-
best
C-
